Two papers describing the work conducted under the Engage umbrella and linking up the eSAD and the VRE-SDM projects have been accepted for presentations: one at the e-Science All Hands Meeting, and the other at the IEEE e-Science conference, both due to take place in Oxford in December 2009. They can be downloaded here. |

We are at the moment adding images to this website. They can all be viewed in the gallery section in the main menu. So far we have pictures from our workshop in May and various conferences. We are also adding images of some of the ancient documents we have been working on. |

The eSAD+VRE-SDM project, part of the Engage initiative supported by OMII-UK and the NGS, has now ended. Within four months, we were able to develop an image processing portal, offering the latest eSAD algorithms as a web-service through the VRE-SDM framework. The outcomes of the project include: a web-based application, a proof of concept for the usability of the VRE-SDM platform, an opportunity for wider dissemination for the eSAD algorithms, and a proof of feasibility for the use of the NGS for Humanities applications. The final report of this side-project is available for download here. This project also provided us with the necessary knowledge to integrate in the future new image processing algorithms as a web-service accessible through the portal. One current focus of our research in the on-going eSAD project is the development of advanced feature detection algorithms, to support papyrologists in their script detection task. |

The OMII-UK (who funds the ENGAGE initiative) just organised a "Collaborations Workshop", at which part of the team working on linking up the eSAD and BVREH projects was present. The poster presented at that workshop is available for download on the OeRC website here |

As part of the OMII-UK ENGAGE initiative, a new project has just been started at the OeRC, lead by Dr. David Wallom and myself. It aims to offer the output of the eSAD project, and particularly the image processing tools we develop, to a wider research community of Classicists through the use of an easy-to-use web-based Virtual Research Environment. As such it bridges the eSAD project and the VRE-SDM project. While the front-end user interface will remain an easy to use application, it will be able to exploit the National Grid Services resources to carry out the advanced computations in the background. View the OMII-UK announcement of this project here. |
